Foxhunting and Eagle Festival
Bayan-Olgii, Western Mongolia
SEPTEMBER 17 - OCTOBER 1, 2026
Hunting with female golden eagles is a traditional form of falconry practiced by Kazakh Eagle Hunters of Western Mongolia in the province of Bayan-Ölgii, Mongolia. Their falconry custom involves hunting with golden eagles on horseback, and they primarily hunt red and corsac foxes, as well as hares, marmots, and Pallas cats. There is truly nothing quite like witnessing the art of eagle hunting firsthand in the breathtaking and expansive landscapes of Mongolia Riding with skilled hunters and navigating the rugged terrain offers a unique and unforgettable glimpse into a world that few are privileged to see.
This trip offers a week of actual hunting (this is not a tourist performance) while riding to eagle huntsmen on your own incredible Mongolian horse. You will find these well-trained, no nonsense, sure-footed and unique horses a ride like nothing you have experienced.
Visits with local nomadic families along the way provide a personal and unique cultural experience. Participating in an Eagle Festival at the end make this the ultimate hunting, cultural, and just plain fun experience available.

NEW for 2026!
Two levels of riding, with flexibility to adapt throughout the day.
First Flight
The first group will stay as close as possible to the eagle hunter and the action! No terrain is off limits and you will experience the hunting with a front row seat. As well, help the eagle hunters scout for quarry. The entire group will meet for a sit-down lunch mid-way through the day, and depending on the terrain and day, may all be riding as one group.
Hilltoppers
We also have a guide for riders that may or may not choose to stay up front and go as fast, but rather at times take a different pace or route, while being nearby the action. Everyone will be in proximity to each other with the option of changing groups as the day unfolds. Having this option allows friends and family with slightly different riding levels to experience this together!
